Q1: I’m not outdoorsy—is this too extreme?
You don’t need to be outdoorsy, but you need baseline fitness (able to walk several miles, handle stairs). The high-altitude hikes are challenging but guided carefully to match you skill levels. Benedick has hike with everyone from former athletes to fit seniors. What matters is willingness and your mindset.
Q2: What if weather prevents the summit hikes?
Hawaii’s Big Island weather is generally favorable, and I monitor it very closely. It can get really nasty up there. But with the right gear anything is possible. I’ve hiked with just a tank top, to arctic gear and crampons like I wore on the summit hike up MaunaKea in the pic above.
There are many alternative hikes, and when the volcano is erupting at Kilauea that’s where we will be, its just 23 mile away.
Or, we can do extended yoga sessions, prepare cacao pods for fermentation and drying, go practice our putting on my private putting green.
The transformation doesn’t depend solely on summits—though they’re profoundly impactful.
Q3: Is there cell service for emergencies?
Limited cell service in certain remote hiking areas. Internet available for emergencies. You’ll have Benedick’s direct contact and he’s on-site. Medical facilities are 10-30 minutes away, in Keaau and in Hilo if needed.
Q4: Is this a yoga retreat?
Yes and no.
While we include 5 Ashtanga yoga sessions as part of this Big Island yoga retreat experience, the practice serves your metabolic reset and consciousness work—not yoga tourism. This is functional movement for longevity, not Instagram poses. Benedick has been practicing the primary series Ashtanga yoga for over 30 years. He has taught classes in London, Los Angeles and Hawaii.
What Q5: Can I extend beyond 30 days if I love it?

60+ days before start:
- 100% refund ($2,500 returned)
- Free transfer to future date
30-59 days before start:
- 50% refund ($1,250 returned)
- Transfer available with $500 fee
0-29 days before start:
- 0% refund (no money returned)
- No transfer option
No-shows: Full payment forfeited.

60+ days before: Free one-time transfer
30-59 days before: $500 rescheduling fee
0-29 days before: Not available
Rescheduled retreats subject to current pricing. Must rebook within 12 months.
Force Majeure
If WE cancel (weather, volcanic activity, natural disaster):
